Missing Rainfall Daily Data: A Comparison Among Gap-Filling Approaches

چکیده

Abstract Missing data is a frequent problem in meteorological and hydrological temporal observation sets. Finding effective solutions to this essential because complete time series are required conduct reliable analyses. This study used daily rainfall from 60 rain gauges spatially distributed within Portugal's Guadiana River basin over 30-year reference period (1976–2005). Gap-filling approaches using kriging-based interpolation methods (i.e. ordinary kriging simple cokriging) presented compared deterministic approach proposed by the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO method). The suggested procedure consists of fitting monthly semi-variogram models average all available stations for each month period. makes it possible use only 12 semi-variograms instead one day gap Ordinary cokriging estimate missing precipitation interest. method applied considering elevation as secondary variable. One year were removed some assess efficacy approaches, estimated three procedures. validated through cross-validation process different performance metrics. results showed that geostatistical outperformed FAO estimation. In investigated area, did not significantly improve estimates kriging, which was deemed best large majority stations.

Performance evaluation of different estimation methods for missing rainfall data

There are numerous methods to estimate missing values of which some are used depending on the data type and regional climatic characteristics. In this research, part of the monthly precipitation data in Sarab synoptic station, east Azerbaijan province, Iran was randomly considered missing values. In order to study the effectiveness of various methods to estimate missing data, by seven classic s...

Analysis of extreme daily rainfall in southeast Asia with a gridded daily rainfall data set

The objective of this study is to estimate the daily extreme precipitation distribution in an Asian monsoon region considering orographic precipitation in mountainous areas. For this purpose, the APHRODITE data set and precipitation observations from 150 raingauges throughout Thailand were used as the main input. First, a bias-correction for underestimated precipitation in the APHRODITE data se...

Filling the gap in functional trait databases: use of ecological hypotheses to replace missing data

Functional trait databases are powerful tools in ecology, though most of them contain large amounts of missing values. The goal of this study was to test the effect of imputation methods on the evaluation of trait values at species level and on the subsequent calculation of functional diversity indices at community level using functional trait databases. Two simple imputation methods (average a...

New Approaches to Filling the Gap in Tuberculosis Drug Discovery

This is the first of three articles in the November 2007 issue on developing new drug treatments for tuberculosis. E arly stage drug discovery is a key bottleneck in the pipeline to find novel drugs for tuberculosis (TB) [1,2]. For diseases that affect people in wealthy countries, pharmaceutical companies actively scout advances in basic research in search of new and potentially lucrative drug ...

Comparison of radar data versus rainfall data

Doppler radar data are increasingly used in rainfall-runoff synthesis studies, perhaps due to radar data availability, among other factors. However, the veracity of the radar data are often a topic of concern. In this paper, three Doppler radar outcomes developed by the United States National Weather Service at three radar sites are examined and compared to actual rain gage data for two separat...
